Terms of Service

Last updated July 29, 2026

1. The Agreement

These terms govern your use of Thea — the Discord bot, the dashboard, help centers, and the APIs (together, "the service"). By installing the bot or creating an account you agree to them on behalf of yourself and, if you add Thea to a server, on behalf of that server's community.

2. What Thea Does

Thea answers questions in your Discord server using the knowledge sources you connect. Answers are generated by large language models grounded in your content. Generated answers can be wrong. Thea cites its sources and is designed to decline rather than guess, but you are responsible for reviewing how it represents you, and it must not be relied on where an incorrect answer could cause harm — legal, medical, financial, or safety-critical advice among others.

Thea also includes tools you choose to enable: ticket channels, public help centers, scheduled announcements, and AutoMod — which scans messages in your server and can delete them, time members out, or temporarily ban them according to rules you configure. These tools act on your community at your direction; enabling them, and reviewing what they do, is your responsibility as the server's administration.

3. Your Account

You sign in with Discord, and you must be old enough to use it — 13, or higher where local law requires. Signing in requires an email address you control, confirmed with a mailed code. You are responsible for what happens under your account and for ensuring you actually have authority to manage the servers you connect. Accounts that abuse the service can be suspended or banned — see section 7.

4. Your Content

The docs, sites, files, and articles you connect remain yours. You grant us a license to fetch, store, index, and process them solely to operate the service — that is what "syncing a knowledge source" means. You are responsible for having the rights to the content you connect.

5. Acceptable Use

Your use of the service is governed by the Acceptable Use Policy, which is part of these terms. In short, you agree not to:

  • use the service to produce spam, harassment, malware, or content that violates Discord's Terms of Service or Community Guidelines;
  • attempt to extract other tenants' data, probe or overload the infrastructure, or bypass rate limits, plan limits, or content moderation;
  • connect content you have no right to use;
  • resell the service without an agreement with us.

6. Billing

Paid plans are billed per Discord server through Stripe, monthly, in advance. You can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel at any time from the billing portal; changes are prorated by Stripe. If payment fails, the service keeps answering through a short grace period before the server is paused — your data is not deleted for non-payment.

7. Suspension & Bans

We may suspend or permanently ban individual Discord users, entire Discord servers, or dashboard accounts that violate these terms or the Acceptable Use Policy. A banned user can no longer interact with the bot; a banned server stops receiving answers, may have the bot removed, and has its subscription cancelled without refund. For serious violations we act immediately and without notice; otherwise we will usually warn first. Evading a ban with new accounts or servers extends the ban to those accounts and servers. Appeals go to support@thea.gg.

Enforcement may be automated. Systems that detect abuse — content violations, rate-limit evasion, attack patterns — can suspend users or servers and withhold answers without human review. Every appeal is reviewed by a person.

Beyond enforcement, we may decline or discontinue service to any user or server at our discretion, including removing the bot from servers whose content or community we do not wish to serve. If we discontinue a paying server for reasons other than a violation, we will give reasonable notice and refund any prepaid fees for the unused period. We may also report illegal activity to Discord or to law enforcement.

8. Data & Termination

You can stop using the service at any time. If you remove the bot from a server, that server's data is retained for 14 days (so an accidental kick is recoverable) and then permanently deleted. You can also request deletion at any time. Conversation transcripts age out automatically per your plan's retention window. When a user, server, or account is banned, the same deletion schedule applies, except for the minimal records we keep to enforce the ban. See the Privacy Policy for the details.

9. Availability

We aim for the service to be reliable but provide it "as is", without warranty. We may change or discontinue features; if we discontinue the service entirely we will give you reasonable notice to export your content.

10. Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim arising out of the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential damages, or for the content of generated answers.

If content you connect, or your breach of these terms, causes a third party to bring a claim against us, you agree to cover the reasonable costs of that claim.

11. Changes

We may update these terms. For material changes we will give notice on the dashboard or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the updated terms.
